Chapter: Love Online and Blog This!
Love Online describes a series of events from the life of the authors son, Henry. During his mid teens, he got in touch with a girl, Sarah, through a discussion going on an online wrestling forum. With time, friendship transformed into dating and very soon both we're in love with each other. The author describes the events, all of them being online, from their first chat to their first ever actual meeting. Even though the relationship did not last, but still the power of communication through the internet cannot be ignored and today it has made way for thousands, if not millions of people to be introduced to each other everyday on different sorts of online discussions, dating websites, blogs and forums.
The second chapter, Blog This! as the author claims was written just before the abrupt rise of the blogging era. At first, only a handful of web surfers started sharing their thoughts on various events, their way of looking at happenings. But with the passage of time, blogging has become a worldwide phenomenon and has become an indisputable force in the media industry. They serve as intermediaries and with the easy methods available to blog, thanks to modern web design tools, information reaches far flung areas within minutes. Moreover, unlike the usual tv/radio/newspapers which seem to send out controlled coverage, bloggers add a new perspective and the masses are instantly exposed to a variety of opinions.
Today, large multinational organisations also maintain blogs, updating their progress on various projects, incorporating audience input into their decisions and thus make the company image very people-centric.
